Our Chancel Choir

Music, like the other ministries in the life and community of Christ Presbyterian Church, is multi-directional.  As God’s people gather for worship, it is important for all to be in communion with God in corporate song.  We sing our opening praises; together we sing our plea for mercy, and then acclaim Christ’s redemptive acts as a re-assurance of pardon; in community we sing the Psalms which our Lord and Savior knew and sang in his own daily worship; we sing a hymn that focuses for us the topics of the day’s scripture and sermon; our final corporate song reminds us of our calling to discipleship and service.  These acts of physical, emotional, and spiritual involvement with God the Father, Christ the Healer, and Holy Spirit the Comforter, are multi-directional in themselves: from the created to the Creator and back again.  Together, we sing our prayers and pray our songs.

The directions of the musical expressions in worship are also from person to person.  While we address our songs to God, we also inspire each other in the gathering.  In the pews or in the choir loft, our songs instruct, exhort, edify, and challenge each other.  These acts of musical worship are not only a gift to God (and God to us) but also to our fellow Christians in worship.

The ministries of musical service in the church are further multi-directional for those who commit to extra time in their busy lives for rehearsal and training in the art of music.  The smaller communities of the church’s choirs are opportunities for Christian service, witness, inspiration, support, consolation, and fellowship with each other within that hard-working group.  God acts through us as we act with each other.  Often, our work together is our worship; we pray God’s blessing on our work that it may be a reasonable sacrifice of service in God’s life-giving community.
