The Church's Paschal Party from Easter to Pentecost
From the Pastor of Christ Church-
According to
Matthew, it was toward the dawn of the first day of the week when two women
went out to ponder the sepulcher. Upon their arrival they meet an angel.
This angel is the first to share the greatest of news; "He is not here,
for he has risen." So they departed
quickly from the tomb "with fear and great joy and ran to tell the
disciples." It doesn't take much imagination to see them running,
skipping, hopping and jumping all the way back. One can visualize the
resultant celebration as the women shared the glorious news. Perhaps
their worship was filled with great trumpet sounds...and the sounds of lute
and harp, timbrel, string, and pipe. Surely the cymbals clashed, and
certainly the faithful danced with joy. On and on their celebration ran.

It is the prayer of
the cadre of musical servants at Christ Church that Christians throughout the
land will enjoy and be inspired by our Eastertide Lessons and Carols on this
recording. We hope that the musical arrangements herein will offer
clergy and choir directors some encouragement for teaching new and unfamiliar
old hymns to their congregations during the fifty days of Easter and
Ascension, culminating in Pentecost.
